READY TO TALK ABOUT YOUR PROJECT?

If you’re on a mission to find that perfect dining room set, you’ve come to the right place!

Today we’re going to talk about what you need to know so you can buy a dining set that’s just right for your home.

There are two things that make a room timeless:

a sense of history and a piece of the future.

Charlotte Moss

Your dining room sets the stage for fun and memorable moments with family and friends, so it’s important to get this right.

That just means we need to do a little work before we go shopping.

So, grab your favorite beverage, roll up your sleeves, and let’s get started.

Check your space

The first step is to take a good look at the size of your dining area.

Knowing your space helps you pick a set that fits well without it looking too big or too small.

Now, measure the length and width of your dining space.

Then, take away 6 feet (72”) from the length and width (This gives you a 3-foot buffer around the table).

The result is the best size for your dining table.

For example, if your space is 12 feet (144”) by 9½ feet (114”), your table should be around 72 inches (144” – 72”) by 42 inches (114” – 72”).

This will ensure there’s enough room for comfortable dining and chair placement.

Stick with your style

Your dining room is a significant part of your home’s style.

Whether you love modern, traditional, or a mix of both, it’s important to keep things consistent, otherwise, it could feel a bit “off”.

Make sure your dining table seamlessly fits into your home by choosing a dining set that complements your existing design.

Think About Materials

When choosing your dining set, the material it’s made from matters for both its look and durability.

Solid wood is a timeless choice, radiating warmth and lasting strength.

If you prefer a more contemporary look, consider materials like glass and metal.

Also, factor in the practical side – think about how easy the materials are to maintain and whether they align with your lifestyle.

Comfort is Key

When picking dining chairs, make sure they’re comfortable.

Check for good support, a comfortable seat height, and a supportive backrest.

If you love long, leisurely meals with loved ones, consider upholstered chairs for that extra layer of comfort and elegance.

Choose the Right Table Shape

The shape of your dining table sets the mood for the entire room.

Rectangular tables are classic and versatile and fit well into most spaces.

Round tables create an intimate feel and are perfect for smaller rooms.

You can also explore unique shapes like oval or square tables for a distinctive touch.

Expand Your Options

If you enjoy hosting guests, a dining set with an extra leaf extension is a game-changer.

This feature lets you adjust the table size based on the number of guests, making your dining space flexible and functional.

Let There Be Light

When choosing your dining room set, think about the lighting too.

Pendant lights or a chandelier above the table can enhance the visual appeal, adding a touch of sophistication.

Get the correct size chandelier – a good rule of thumb is that your chandelier should be ¾ the width of the table.  For example, if your round table width is 60”, the chandelier should be 45”.

Another way to measure for a chandelier is to measure the length and width of your room in feet, add them together and that will be the best chandelier size in inches.  For example, if your room is 10 ft x 12 ft, then your chandelier should be about 22”.

Make sure the lighting matches the overall style of your dining set.  Chrome with glass is on the modern edge, crystal is usually more traditional, and iron can be industrial.

Pro-Tip:  When hanging your chandelier, you want it to be between 30” and 34” above the table.

Coordinate Colors and Finishes

When thinking about your dining set fabric and wood colors, it’s safe to stick to your home’s color palette and chosen finishes.

However, adding some contrasting elements to your decor will make it more interesting without losing that cohesive look.

Storage Solutions

Functionality is key, especially in the dining room.

Look for dining sets with storage solutions like buffets or sideboards.

They not only contribute to the design but also offer practical storage for dinnerware, linens, and other essentials.

Timeless Charm

Lastly, aim for that timeless charm in your dining room furniture.

Trends come and go, but a classic design in neutral tones will stay stylish for a long time.

It will give you a canvas to show off your style with your decor choices.

Choosing the perfect dining room set is about mixing your style with functionality.

By considering these unique elements, you can confidently create a dining space that not only serves its purpose but also becomes a featured space in your forever home.
